Because of ALL of YOU, We Stopped the Hate in St. Louis

Thank YOU —WE DID!

Because of you and 3453 others in Missouri and around the country, our petition asking advertisers to abandon the Jamie Allman radio show (after his attacks on high school kids) was wildly successful.

Less than 12 hours after we launched our petition drive, four major companies immediately pulled their advertising dollars from KFTK-97.1 FM —and personally responded to many of your emails and tweets.

We thank Chesterfield Fence & DeckThe Gellman Team realty, Palm Health St. Louis and the Clayton franchise of Ruth’s Chris Steak House for standing up quickly to “hate”.

But we never expected what came less than 5 days later.

The Washington Post first broke the story that Jamie Allman had resigned from KDNL-TV, a Sinclair station in the St. Louis area, according to a PR executive with Sinclair.  The next morning, Jamie was absent from “Allman in the Morning”, his daily show on the conservative FM new-talk radio station KFTK, 97.1.

Shortly after, Entercom Media (in the process of purchasing KFTK-FM) announced that “Allman will no longer be a member of KFTK-FM and his show has been cancelled, effective immediately”, according to Entercom’s head of communications.

We never dreamed that either of his radio & TV shows would be cancelled so quickly – but it was because of all of you. Before we even had a chance to launch our next steps, he was removed from both stations.

It was because of your commitment to help stop the brutal hate by media personality Jamie Allman.  After the Washington Post published reports of his TV show resignation, tons of other media picked up our efforts and we made national & international news. Newtown Action Alliance (founded by Newtown CT residents after the Sandy Hook tragedy) helped publicize our petition because they also were appalled by the outrageous attacks on David Hogg of Stoneman Douglas High School.

In this season of unlimited divisive media commentary, we were able to join forces and say NO to hate in St. Louis.  Together we said “NO” to hate against Florida teens who have survived unimaginable gun violence in their school and “NO” to hated directed towards St. Louis teens who stood up against a “Confederate” school board candidate.

Together we stood strong and won.  Thank you.
